A Being(s) in Love Story
Arthur MacArthur needs a job, and not just for the money. Before he dropped out of school to support his younger sister, he loved being a research assistant at the university. But working for a dragon, one of the rarest and least understood magical beings, has unforeseen complications. While Arthur may be the only applicant who isn't afraid of Philbert Jones in his dragon form, the instant attraction he feels for his new employer is beyond disconcerting.
Bertie is a brilliant historian, but he can't find his own notes without help - his house is a hoard of books and antiques, hence the need for an assistant. Setting the mess right is a dream come true for Arthur, who once aspired to be an archivist. But making sense of Bertie's interest in him is another matter. After all, dragons collect treasure, and Arthur is anything but extraordinary.

Unexpected and Refreshing!!!!
By L.d. in Indiana
There are times that you will think this book is just like all the others in the paranormal field. WRONG!! This book is full of surprises and leaves you guessing. When you think you know the scoop, be prepared to be wrong. This is the best book I have read in AGES!!! I love this author.
Finally! A romance that is just that ... a ROMANCE.

Just a Delight
By Julia
So it wasn't perfect...this is one case where I just didn't care. The entire premise was charming, the dragon himself was presented in an original way, and if nothing else, the name "Arthur MacArthur" should be a dead giveaway that considerable whimsy and a British love of the absurd will lurk within the pages. Arthur was stubborn and impassioned, sulky and oblivious, and loyal to a fault...and everything you'd expect a young thwarted overachiever to be. He's hinging on bitterness but hasn't quite arrived there yet. Enter a dragon called Bertie (a name normally reserved for overbred heirs to the English throne, which gives you some idea of how dragons see themselves in relation to the world at large).
This isn't just the telling of a sweet love story...it's also a gentle reworking of a few legends, and as such, you can sometimes feel the strings as the author pulls the web into place. But that's okay. Sometimes, it's not the what...it's the how. Arthur is defensive and striving heroically to be a man, riding forth on his trusty bicycle steed as a delivery boy dedicated to the protection of his particular princess. The dragon musingly watches everything Arthur does but is entranced with what Arthur is. Arthur doesn't get that...at all. The author reinvents the role of the dragon in a way I found original and satisfying and then fits Bertie into the lines of the fairy tale unfolding in a way that's both new and authentic. Bertie balances the line between human and something more alien quite nicely. He's never full out dangerous in the moment, but boy, I get the feeling that goaded rightly, he could be. Part of me would have liked to see that.
My only wish would have been to have seen more of Bertie in dragon form. I really chuckled at the challenges presented by a house built for humans, when a short, squat dragon is trying to get about on all fours. The kitchen counters, for instance. The really low sofa and TV, set just so for a critter more comfortable on his belly. A few other instances that really made me smile. Here's a magical creature, of ancient lineage and great dignity, who could eat you at a moment's notice if desired...but he can't reach the salt shaker. It made me think better of Bertie who endures a certain amount of inconvenience and potential loss of dignity to accommodate the humans around him. I liked him immensely.
So, if you think you'd enjoy a slightly fractured fairy tale and you're willing to forego a 0 to 60 start, then this is the book for you.
Thanks, R. Cooper for something a bit different and fun.

It's ok but a bit drawn out.
By Blaltimore Phil
Let's see- you can't judge a book by its' cover. Although, I did appreciate the sensual illustration. I mean I do get the tension between our two protagonists. Supposedly, the idea is to build to a big bang. However, one can only do so much with the action focused on a prolonged series of figuring each other out.Basically, the drama centered in a house with minimal passing characters in the story. Granted, it was a dragon and a boy accommodating to their peculiarities. I did get a clear picture of the young man but I had trouble grasping the dragon in human form. The author did not sustain an enthusiastic interest. I put the book down a couple times out of boredom. The idea and setting was different but there wasn't enough to hold it together for me. The experience was rather dull. Evidently, others have a different take on the subject. So, why did I finish this one? Sometimes an ending can piece a lot together. It didn't but it was interesting how the this fantasy was taking place in the modern world. Ah, I don't know if it's worth the price. Below $2.00 would have been more acceptable.
