Ok, not great and turning Everett into "The Hero" was just too easy...
By W.J.R
I really enjoyed the first 2 books but turning the murder of innocents and children into the instant hero really didn't make for a good story. Nathan plays a very small role in this book, Ava almost none, the actual Siege of Pailtar is perhaps only 5% of the book. Most of the book is really about Everett, this book almost felt like a different story than the first two books. For me, it read like the characters from the first two books where just inserted into a different storyline, almost incidental.
Also, quite a bit of time (most) is spent on the character Evrett, a character who ordered a mass murderer, purposely went back to finish the job and kill everyone when folks survived. He gave a Sharon over to be raped by his men and was going to sell the other girls into sexual slavery. I'm all for creating a viable perspective for the "other" in this case he does all these awful things because he has "daddy issues" but turning this character into the hero of the book, the savior, and having every move he makes, every plan work out perfectly, have him win every fight... felt forced. With no personal loss or cost, no penance, his rise felt manufactured and cheapened the efforts of the other characters. Why worry, just let Everette the murdering child killer solve all the problems..
Seeking justice for mass murder (including children) an rape, isn't seeking revenge, it's justice, contrary to how the book positions the motivations of those seeking for Everett to have accountability for his actions.
I'm a sucker for a well done redemption story, but for me, this was definitely not that. A well done redemption stories challenges the characters, is a journey to redemption, this one leads a charmed life, finds his true love, is in complete control of every outcome, other characters as he manipulates them to his end, making them look rather weak and stupid.
It was all just too easy.

I actually really enjoyed the first two books
By josh
I actually really enjoyed the first two books. This book was very disappointing. Not because the story was bad but rather because it felt like the book spent more time on new people than the main character. After reading the first two, I put this book down before making it half way through because I got tired of skipping multiple chapters because I didn't care, nor did I want to invest in another character, at least to the extent this book was bringing them in. If the books had taken a split character view from the start I would have been fun but focusing on the prisoner and then splitting between another in the third book. Very irritating, at least for me.

Losing quality
By angel romero
I enjoyed reading parts of this book, but it seems the author is spreading it out to thin. Usually a book is about a main character, or multiple main characters that effect each other. However in the last book and even more so in this book the story diverts to characters that aren't that important. I still liked the parts with Nathan in it, but the rest seemed like they had their own stories that weren't as attention grabbing as the character the book got its foothold from.
