About the Author
Lee Frelich is a Research Associate in the Department of Forest Resources at the University of Minnesota, St Paul and Founder Director of the University of Minnesota Center for Hardwood Ecology. His research experience spans studies of the impact of acid rain on forest growth, paleoecological studies of forest change, tree population dynamics, old-growth forest dynamics and forest disturbance ecology, including the effects of fire, windstorms and grazing.

About the Author
Stephen Marshak is professor of geology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where he is also the director of the School of Earth, Society, and Environment. He holds an A.B. from Cornell University, an M.S. from the University of Arizona, and a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Steve's research interests lie in structural geology and tectonics. This work has taken him into the field on a number of continents. Steve loves teaching and has won his college's and university's highest teaching awards. In addition to research papers and Earth Science, Steve has also authored Earth: Portrait of a Planet, Essentials of Geology, and has co-authored the Laboratory Manual for Introductory Geology, Earth Structure: An Introduction to Structural Geology and Tectonics, and Basic Methods of Structural Geology.

About the Author
George E. Rejda is a nationally known expert on private insurance and social insurance programs. He is a Past President of the American Risk and Insurance Association. His primary research areas are Social Security and unemployment insurance. He is a founding member of the National Academy of Social Insurance, initially limited to 125 experts on Social Security in the United States. He is the founding editor of "Benefits Quarterly" in the employee benefits field and also served as Communication and Notes editor for the "Journal of Risk and Insurance." He has published numerous books, articles, and other publications, several of which were used by the Insurance Institute of America in its professional program. He is a former member of the examination committee of the Insurance Institute of America, which designs and administers professional examinations to employees in the property and casualty insurance industry. His textbook, "Principles of Risk Management and Insurance," is widely used by colleges and universities throughout the United States. Rejda received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania where he studied risk and insurance as a Huebner Foundation Fellow in the Wharton School. He is a former member of the Administrative Board of the Huebner Foundation for Insurance Education at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He is also a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU). During his career at UNL, he has taught more than 13,000 students.

DARIO FARINA is Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Neurore-habilitation Engineering at the University Medical Center Göttingen, Georg-August University, Göttingen, Germany. He is also Chair for Neuroinformatics of the Bernstein Focus Neurotechnology Göttingen.

WINNIE JENSEN is an Associate Professor at the Center for Sensory-Motor Interaction at Aalborg University, Denmark.
